8th Annual STEM Lecture with Andrew Green OBE!
On Tuesday 8th October, we were excited to welcome Wing Commander Andrew Green, OBE to College, to deliver our eighth Annual STEM Lecture!
Andy is a retired RAF Officer and current holder of the World Land Speed Record. We found out that he is the only person to break the sound barrier on land, creating a sonic boom. The lecture was live streamed to all College students and our feeder primaries, and everyone was amazed at the level of detail and engineering that went into the design and construction of the vehicle used.
Andy broke the record in the Thrust SSC vehicle and students were able to view private footage of the actual race, and Andy was keen to share his achievements and experiences of his vivid and unique career with us.
Several workshops took place during the College day, with partner primaries and students from College and there was opportunity to consider design and innovation of the future land speed vehicle – SSC Bloodhound, currently in development. Andy answered lots of questions from eager students!
