Shrek the Musical!

In July 2024, the Creative Arts Academy presented four performances of Shrek the Musical. Work had started back in August 2023 on the script and prop list before the show was teased through social media. This year, we put up several potential musicals on the wall in the Performance Studio and students took three down each day, leading up to the launch of auditions. It certainly got the College talking about it and many parents were putting forward their ideas too. The launch was well attended, and Shrek seemed to be a very popular choice so off we went into lead cast auditions (which was incredibly hard to cast as there were so many people who could have played the roles) and then finally rehearsals.

Costume, prop and set workshops all took place with students from across all year groups and Duloc began to be created. From ‘Beware Ogre’ signs, to Fiona’s Tower, Shrek’s costume (including padding) to Dulocian wigs, Creative Arts Academy Students learnt new techniques and skills as well as developing their creativity. They contributed their own ideas to costumes, signs and set alike.

Finally, show week dawned and the start of four performances. The cast looked amazing, the props were just astounding and the talent on stage was second to none with everyone working together both on stage and backstage to create a fantastic experience for the students and the audience. Another amazing HTCS musical and we can’t wait to see what happens next year!
