Hub House Competitions!

This term, High Tunstall pupils have really showed their competitive side with a huge amount of entries for our two Hub House competitions. The first – to create the spookiest Halloween poetry – had 184 entries and was won by a Year 10 student from Sharman House. The second was to create a poster for Anti-Bullying Week. This really touched the hearts of our students and we had a massive 256 entries from all ages and houses and the creative talent was off the scale! An amazing poster from a Year 8 student in Curie House was chosen as a worthy winner.

For International Literacy Day, a prize was awarded to the tutor group with the most combined literacy points – super well done 8T1! Over 1000 points were handed out that day. Other celebrations and displays included Banned Books Week, Black History Month Remembrance Day and Parliament Week with lots of featured books read and displays created by our students.

This term, some of our brilliant readers in Year 10 trained to become Reading Mentors to Year 7 students during tutor time. This is a very responsible role and our young people are really stepping up to the challenge, listening and guiding their mentees to greater reading fluency and confidence while in return, developing their own communication and leadership skills.

Well done to all students who took part in Hub House Competitions!

Lastly, if you are thinking of buying books as Christmas presents, Scholastic Books are offering to give a percentage of the purchase price towards new books for our library at HTCS. Our students love to recommend new books, so this would be very gratefully received! https://shop.scholastic.co.uk/
