KS3 Culture Day!
This February, the High Tunstall Student Culture Leadership Committee planned and delivered the first KS3 Culture Day. The day was planned in conjunction with the KS4 Careers Carousel Day and was a drop-down day for all students. The students mapped-our and helped plan all areas of the day for KS3 students.
The day entailed the following:
- A session of religious cultures and the similarities between religions and their festivals, beliefs and practices
- A session built up over the week, where students could create an item of art based on their culture and celebrate this as a form.
- A session quizzing students about global cultures and testing their knowledge in a number of areas
- An awareness raising session about culture and discrimination, the law and links to the British Values of Tolerance and Respect.
- A tutor time session, showcasing a cultural Ready, Steady Cook House Challenge, with Heads of House and students competing to cook the best cultural dish in a short space of time, wonderfully judged by Mr Blades our Chair of Governors.
Students were also treated to an amazing cultural spread at lunchtime, with dishes such as Salt and Chilli Chicken with spring rolls, Butter Chicken Curry with Naans, Belgian Waffles, and Vegetable Chow Mein.

Finally, the College offered students the chance to wear items of clothing related to their culture. It was absolutely brilliant to see so many students wearing items of clothing or full cultural dress.
Thank you for a wonderful day, all designed by the students for the students, and we are already planning next years event after such a successful day.
