We are proud to be recognised as a ‘Well School’ by the Youth Sport Trust!
We are delighted to announce that High Tunstall College of Science has been officially recognised as a Well School for the 2025/26 to 2026/27 academic years, as part of a national accreditation scheme run by children’s charity the Youth Sport Trust.
The Well Schools programme brings together more than 2,000 schools and Trusts across the UK that are committed to improving education outcomes by prioritising the health, happiness and wellbeing of their staff and students.
To achieve Well School status, our Senior Leadership Team completed the ‘Well School: Well Check’ self-review and submitted a detailed range of evidence demonstrating how we support wellbeing across the four key pillars of a Well School:
-
Well Culture
-
Lead Well
-
Move Well
-
Live Well
This evidence was independently peer-reviewed by an expert Beacon Well School to ensure the high standards required for certification were met. The importance of this work is reflected in recent Youth Sport Trust research, which shows that 64% of parents and carers believe student wellbeing is more important than academic achievement when choosing a secondary school.
Our Headteacher, Mr Mark Tilling, said:
“We are extremely pleased to be recognised as a Well School by the Youth Sport Trust. This accreditation is a testament to our staff, students and the wider community we serve. The work we do around living well and moving well is underpinned by a strong wellbeing culture, and this award recognises the commitment of everyone at High Tunstall to supporting wellbeing across the College.”
