Author Matt Dickinson visits High Tunstall College!
On March 10th 2023 we were extremely lucky to secure the visit of author, film-maker and adventurer, Matt Dickinson who managed to brave the snow and rail strikes of England, to come to HTCS just before his return visit to Everest in April 23. He was brilliant throughout the day, engaging a selection of Year 8 and 9 students, the ARC, MLD and Year 7 students, with his thrilling accounts of his adventures on Everest, of the difficulties the expeditions had faced and how these had been overcome. He connected these recounts with extracts from his books, highlighting the extraordinary and amazing experiences you can have when reading, the feeling of being involved with the story and characters and made his books come to life for our young people.
After many books were signed, Matt also led a writing workshop as a treat for our Student Librarians, who are very enthusiastic writers themselves, and a writing careers talk with our extremely high achieving Year 10 English students, where the students were able to ask in depth questions and discuss their own career paths. The feedback from all sessions was exceptional and we will look forward to future visits.
