Dragon’s Den Winners 2019!

To celebrate global entrepreneurship week students from High Tunstall College of Science were invited to an enterprise event held at the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).  Students were able to hear some real life local entrepreneurial stories and learn a little bit more about what it is like being an entrepreneur.  Whatever the business idea, whether linked to social media careers, film careers or retail, there is always a gap in the market!

The Year 9 students attended a carousel of workshops and listened attentively to how they could create ideas, manage a business and finally the secrets to marketing.  Students were given the opportunity to listen to Marc De Launay, director, producer and writer.  With their newfound business knowledge students spent the afternoon putting it in to practice.  They were up against other local schools and had to complete a Dragon’s Den type activity in which they came up with an idea which was scalable, sustainable and viable.  The groups had to present to the ‘dragons’ and winners were then chosen to take home the trophy and a £10 voucher each, which would be presented by the Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Brenda Loynes.

“The college had two groups of students who entered the competition, both coming up with great ideas.  A huge congratulations to the Multi Action Economic (MAE) group who were successful and won best idea.  Students came up with a digital teaching resource in which classroom tables would have built in ipads to work on saving costs of books and paper and also to help the environment!“

“The students performed superbly…I look forward to them opting for GCSE business next year!” Mrs Carling, Faculty Leader of Technology and Enterprise
