Professor Ventsislav K. Valev Delivers Our Sixth Annual Regional STEM Lectures!
Tuesday 18th October 2022 saw the event of High Tunstall’s sixth Annual Regional STEM Lecture, and it did not fail to inspire all that listened!
The arrival of Professor Ventsislav K. Valev, who is in post currently at the University of Bath, ensured that High Tunstall students were fully immersed in the world of Nanotechnology throughout the day.
During his visit to the College, Ventsislav spoke about the chirality of molecules and how these mirror images have very different properties alongside sharing details of his most up to date research projects. These included a climate-based research project involving the removal of plastics from the environment. Our students asked many questions relating to the world of STEM during his tour of their lessons and the two ‘mini lectures’ that he delivered. Students displayed enormous interest in the work of the Professor.
The main lecture held at the Borough hall was attended by over 900 young people. These included students from Primary, Secondary and Further Education sectors from all across the Tees Valley, accompanied by their teachers and many invited guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Hartlepool. Students were extremely keen to find out more about Ventsislav and asked some interesting questions about his life and career during the Q&A session following the lecture.
The whole event was a huge success and we look forward to announcing the guest speaker for the seventh of our Annual Regional STEM Lectures in the New Year!
